Thank you for your interest in the Mapping Production of Knowledge on Women and Gender in the Arab Region (MPK) Project. There are several ways to use the MPK Database:
1. In the Database, type a word or phrase of interest in the keyword search box. The keyword search allows users to look for any word or phrase across all available text fields (e.g., titles, journals). Note that words and phrases may also appear in the abstract of a reference. However, due to copyright or availability limitations, a reference may read “Abstract not available”.
2. In the Database, below the “Search by Code” text, you will find codes that can be expanded. Once a code has been expanded, you can check a box next to the code or codes you are interested in finding literature about and click “Apply Filters”. The codes were developed as part of the MPK analysis and are further explained in the codebook. Note that there are codes on common topics across thematics (e.g., geographies) as well as codes that are specific to each thematic. The codebook explains:
1. How searches for literature were performed, including the use of Boolean Operators
2. How manual coding was performed in Zotero (a reference manager)
3. How automated coding was performed (including why we moved to this approach)
4. Cross-thematic codes
5. Each thematic’s specific set of codes For a more in-depth discussion of the codebook see “Using the Codebook”.
*Note, the results shown are the boolean “AND” of the selected topics. This means that a result will only show up if an article is categorized under all selected topics. Additionally, this means that if you want to see the results for an individual topic, you will have to select the specific topic individually.
3. To search for a term that appears in one or many article titles, enter the term in the “Search by Keyword” section.
